    Without Rust, download a prebuilt binary. universal runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs:

    The binaries are ad-hoc signed, not notarised. If you download one in a browser, macOS may block it; run xattr -d com.apple.quarantine codex-color first. SHA256SUMS.txt has the checksums.

    codex-skin is now Codex Color: the command is codex-color, the Codex skill is $codex-color, and the Dock launcher is Codex Color.app.

    Moving over from codex-skin

    Run this once:

    codex-skin update

    It installs codex-color, which moves your setup over:

    • Your skins move from ~/.codex-skin to ~/.codex-color, with your saved skins, settings and the backup of your original Codex colours.
    • The skill: $codex-skin is replaced by $codex-color. Start a new Codex thread to use it.
    • The Dock launcher is rebuilt in place, so the Dock icon keeps working.
    • The background watcher moves to its new name. macOS may show a "Background Items Added" notice once.
    • The old binary: codex-skin is removed.

    CODEX_SKIN_* environment variables keep working; the new names are CODEX_COLOR_*.

    To do it by hand instead:

    cargo install codex-color
codex-color install-skill
cargo uninstall codex-skin

    With downloaded binaries, put codex-color in the same folder as codex-skin before running it. If you installed codex-skin with cargo install --root <dir>, use the same --root for codex-color.

    If Codex is open with a skin while you update, codex-color takes over keeping it applied.
